BREAKING: Tinubu Names 39-Year-Old Professor Segun Aina As New JAMB Registrar

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed Professor Segun Aina as the new Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), ushering in a new era for Nigeria’s tertiary admissions body.

Aina, who turns 40 in July, will take over from Professor Is-haq Oloyede upon the expiration of his second and final tenure on July 31, 2026.

Announcing the appointment, presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga described Aina as a renowned academic and systems expert with deep expertise in national examination systems, digital infrastructure, and public-sector reform.

According to the statement, Aina holds a Bachelor of Engineering degree in Computer Systems Engineering from the University of Kent, alongside an MSc in Internet Computing and Network Security and a PhD in Digital Signal Processing from Loughborough University, United Kingdom.

He also completed the Senior Management Programme at Lagos Business School.

The statement noted that the Obafemi Awolowo University professor first gained experience with JAMB during his National Youth Service, where he developed firsthand knowledge of the board’s admissions and data management processes, experience said to have shaped his contributions to examination reforms and systems optimisation over the years.

Aina is also a member of several professional bodies, including the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN), the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), and the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET).

Onanuga said President Tinubu expects the incoming registrar to deploy his wealth of experience and technical expertise to strengthen JAMB’s operations and build on the achievements recorded under Oloyede’s leadership.
