The Bauchi State government has taken a significant step towards combating corruption in its educational system by embracing cashless transactions.Â
This announcement was made by the state governor, Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed, during the commencement of a two-day education summit held at the Sultan Sa’ad Abubakar Hajj Camp in Bauchi.
The summit, organized by the state’s Ministry of Education, aims to formulate effective measures to tackle the persistent challenges faced by the education sector in Bauchi, challenges that have proven resistant to previous administrations’ efforts.
Governor Mohammed highlighted the detrimental impact of corrupt practices on educational progress in the state, acknowledging that these issues have long impeded advancements.
To counteract this, the government has implemented modern tools such as the cashless policy and online transfers for all payments related to education.
“We have implemented modern tools such as the cashless policy and online transfers for all education-related payments. This reduces cash exchanges that may lead to theft or misappropriation of funds.”
This strategic move aims to minimize cash transactions, mitigating the risks associated with theft or misappropriation of funds.
Furthermore, the governor emphasized that beyond enhancing financial efficiency, the adoption of cashless transactions enables swift actions against individuals involved in malpractice, ensuring accountability within the system.
Governor Mohammed also asserted his administration’s commitment to addressing the challenges faced by Almajiri children, seeking to integrate them into the formal education system.
To achieve this, the government has engaged 5000 facilitators and taken collaborative efforts with SUBEB, the Ministry of Education, BESDA, and UNICEF to manage four Tsangaya schools.
This multi-pronged approach demonstrates the administration’s dedication to inclusive and comprehensive educational reforms.
The Bauchi State government, under the leadership of Governor Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed, is actively pursuing transformative measures to combat corruption in education, enhance financial transparency, and address the longstanding issues affecting the state’s educational system.
