The Bauchi State Government has decided to increase the amount of money they set aside for family planning(FP) from 75 million naira in 2023 to 120 million naira in 2024.

This increase is meant to help with training, spreading awareness, and ensuring that the state follows the national guidelines for buying FP supplies.

The Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed Abdulkadir, shared this information during a meeting about the Women’s Integrated Services for Health (WISH) Project held at the Government House.

“I`m deeply elated to address you today on the significant milestone that we are able to achieve as a government in our collective effort towards rebranding the continuum of services in the health sector.”

He mentioned that the government is committed to making policies and plans that improve the lives of people in the state.

The governor mentioned that the WISH Project is a big step forward in providing good sexual and reproductive health services to women.

He also emphasized the importance of family planning in achieving development goals like reducing maternal and child illness and death, as well as boosting economic growth.

The governor highlighted the government’s efforts to provide free family planning services at public health facilities.

He mentioned that the number of people using long-term contraceptives has increased in recent years.

One goal of the WISH Project is to make sure the government takes responsibility for sexual and reproductive health services.

It also aims to educate people about family planning and change some beliefs that might stop them from using these services.

The Bauchi State Commissioner of Health, Dr Adamu Umar Sambo, mentioned that the WISH Project helps fill gaps in knowledge and access to contraception and other reproductive health needs.

“We also appreciate the setting up of the Quality Assurance Technical Team, which not only built the capacity of our staff in the state but also set up the right systems needed in our health sector for quality data, operations, and service delivery to our women,”

He thanked the government for increasing the budget for Family Planning and appreciated the support from organizations like MSI.

The Bauchi State Government is taking steps to improve family planning services and overall healthcare, with a focus on women’s health, through initiatives like the WISH Project.
