Atletico Furious as Barcelona Transfer Rumours Around Alvarez Intensify

—

Atletico Madrid have strongly dismissed growing reports linking Argentine striker Julian Alvarez with a sensational move to Barcelona, insisting the forward is not leaving the club anytime soon.

Since arriving in Spain, the ex-Manchester City player, who has become one of Atletico’s most significant players, is said to be increasingly annoyed by the ongoing rumors surrounding him.

Reports from Spain say the Madrid club has rejected any discussions or requests over a possible summer transfer.

The News Chronicle reports that Atletico executives find the rumors annoying and pointless, especially given Alvarez’s continued importance to Diego Simeone’s long-term vision.

Sources near the club apparently called the transfer rumors false and an element of a planned attack meant to generate controversy over the player’s destiny.

Though the noise level increased, Atletico officials praised Alvarez for staying professional and totally dedicated on the field all season. Under contract until 2030, the 26-year-old forward has dazzled with his play in La Liga and across Europe.

Though Atletico still wants to keep one of its best players, Barcelona is reportedly looking for a long-term attacking alternative as Robert Lewandowski nears the end of his career.
