Former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, has paid tribute to the late founder of DAAR Communications, Chief Raymond Aleogho Dokpesi, three years after his passing.
In a statement marking the anniversary, Atiku described Dokpesi as unforgettable and a blessing to those who knew him.
“It’s been three years since you bid us farewell. But your memories continue to be a blessing. You are unforgettable, my brother and friend, Chief Raymond Aleogho Dokpesi. Continue to rest, Ezomo,” Atiku wrote. The tribute was signed “-AA”.
Chief Raymond Dokpesi died in May 2023 at the age of 71. He was a media mogul, politician, and chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party. He founded Africa Independent Television, AIT, and RayPower FM, and was widely regarded as a pioneer of private broadcasting in Nigeria.
He held the traditional title of Ezomo of Weppa-Wanno Kingdom in Edo State.
Atiku and Dokpesi shared a long political relationship dating back to the Second Republic and through the PDP, where Dokpesi served in various capacities.
The third anniversary has drawn tributes from political associates, media colleagues, and family members who remembered his contributions to journalism, politics, and philanthropy in Nigeria.
