The Plateau State Ministry of Education has alerted all zonal directors, area directors and school principals over an alleged plan by the Black Axe Confraternity, also known as Aye, to recruit pupils and students in primary and secondary schools across the state.
In a circular dated July 23, 2026, and signed by the Deputy Director, Public-Private Partnership, Lafa Longs Lamvong, on behalf of the Commissioner for Education, the ministry said intelligence reports indicated that the confraternity planned to embark on mass recruitment of students across the federation, including Plateau State.
According to the statement, the group is allegedly planning to gain access to schools under the guise of non-governmental organisations (NGOs), offering donations of educational materials and other essential items before encouraging students to join the organisation.
The ministry further stated that the alleged recruitment drive is linked to the group’s Founder’s Day activities and could provide members with an opportunity to expand their network and elect new leaders nationwide.
To prevent unauthorized access to schools, the ministry directed all principals not to admit or entertain visitors without due consultation and approval. It also instructed school administrators to refrain from engaging with any organisation without prior clearance from the Ministry of Education.
The ministry urged education officials and school administrators to remain vigilant and strictly comply with the directive to safeguard students from any suspected recruitment activities
