At A Church Event, Olukoya Declares: Only God Can Save Nigeria

Prospects of Nigeria overcoming her numerous social, economic, political and religious challenges without God’s intervention are currently not appearing bright, if the warning of one of the leading deliverance clerics in the country is anything to go by.

At the international convention and 30th anniversary of the Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministries (MFM), held at its Prayer City, along the busy Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, the Founder and General Overseer of the Christian establishment, Daniel Olukoya, said Nigeria can only overcome her problems with God’s intervention.

Olukoya was speaking at the church event with Governors Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State and Udom Emmanuel of Akwa Ibom State in attendance on Sunday. Sanwo-Olu, a member of the MFM was later joined by his wife, Ibijoke, at the event.

On the occasion, more than 300 first class graduates who are MFM members from various reputable universities and polytechnics across the world benefited from the Olukoya Academic Award of Excellence in 2019.

Olukoya himself a first class graduate from University of Lagos (UniLag) instituted the award for the academic high-flyers with each beneficiary collecting N500,000, showing that the award gulped N150 million for this year.

The cleric who graduated from UniLag in 1980 with a first-class degree in microbiology, was the first person to have achieved a first-class in the course at the university and his G.P.A is still the highest recorded so far (as at February 2010) in that course.

Of the beneficiaries, three came from Akwa Ibom while graduates more than three bagged first class in medicine and surgery from world-class universities.

The governors presented the awards to the beneficiaries at the anniversary which has Re-arranged For Revival as its theme.

Olukoya who however, rendered a duet with his wife, Shade, later said the anniversary marked ‘’30 years of uncommon testimonies, 30 years of turning barren life into fertile one, 30 years of glorious manifestation of signs and wonders, 30 years of yoke breaking and glorious display of gospel of Jesus Christ, 30 years of God’s faithfulness, 30 years of manifestation of divine acceleration and 30 years of mysterious destiny restoration.’’

Continuing, he said ‘’it also marked 30 years of demonstration of the raw power of God Almighty, 30 years of divine power and divine favour, 30 years of breaking stubborn yokes,, 30 years of life changing and mountain-moving prayers and setting the captives free, among others.’’

The colourful event witnessed choir ministrations of various ethnic groups across the world and climaxed with the cutting of the 30th birthday anniversary cake, and students of the Mountain Top University founded by the church also performed chorale ministration at the event.

On the seeming daunting challenges of Nigeria, Olukoya argued that if Christians could pray more, the country will be in a better position. According to him, ‘’we need divine intervention as a nation but I’m a believer of one Nigeria and I believe God has a purpose for where we are. I keep telling people that if we look at the map of Africa, it looks like a gun and Nigeria is at the trigger end of it, so God has a purpose for us and I believe if Christians pray more and do what they should do, everything will be fine.’’

‘’As part of my passion for youths, I had a 70-point agenda to ensure their success in all their endeavours. The award is one, the MFM football team is another. To the glory of God, both are doing well now. This award started in 2010 when we gave out 19 cars to first-class graduates. By 2013, the number of first-class graduates had risen to 77. We could no longer afford to give out cars, so we resorted to giving out cash awards’’, the cleric added.
