The Academic Staff Union of Universities, Taraba State University branch (ASUU-TSU), has suspended its indefinite strike action following the successful signing of a Memorandum of Action (MoA) with the Taraba State Government and the university management.
The development was disclosed in a statement issued to journalists in Jalingo by the Chairperson of ASUU-TSU, Comrade Mbave Joshua Garba.
According to the statement, the union resolved to suspend the total, comprehensive, and indefinite strike with effect from March 18, 2026, after what it described as fruitful deliberations and commitments made by the state government to address the issues that led to the industrial action.
“We wish to inform the general public that following the successful signing of a Memorandum of Action (MoA) between the Government of Taraba State, the University Management, and the Union, Congress has resolved to suspend its total, comprehensive, and indefinite strike action with effect from March 18, 2026,” the statement read.
The union noted that the decision was reached after careful consideration and expressed optimism that the agreement would restore normal academic activities and improve the welfare of its members.
ASUU-TSU assured students, parents, and the general public that lectures would resume immediately, while the union continues to monitor the implementation of all agreements reached.
“The branch remains committed to ensuring that all provisions of the MoA are faithfully executed in the interest of staff and the overall development of the university,” the statement added.
Comrade Garba revealed that both academic and non-academic staff had earlier accepted a ₦500 million offer by the Taraba State Governor, Agbu Kefas, to resolve the dispute.
“Yes, the strike is officially suspended. We have reached a healthy agreement with the state government this afternoon, and the indefinite strike action embarked upon since February 18 is hereby suspended,” he said.
The union commended Governor Kefas and other stakeholders for their roles in facilitating the resolution and ensuring the resumption of academic activities at Taraba State University.
However, ASUU-TSU urged the state government to remain committed to the terms of the agreement to prevent future disruptions to the academic calendar.
The suspension of the strike is expected to pave the way for the immediate resumption of lectures and other academic activities at the institution.
The union also expressed appreciation to stakeholders for their patience, understanding, and support throughout the period of the industrial action.
