Arsenal FC has agreed on personal terms with Espanyol goalkeeper Joan García but has yet to make the bid official, as the London side monitors the situation around Aaron Ramsdale, who could leave due to significant interest from clubs across Europe.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Espanyol is aware of Arsenal’s interest and could initiate business with the club should their second-choice goalkeeper depart before or on the closure of the summer transfer window:
“Arsenal has already reached a verbal agreement with Spanish goalkeeper Joan García on personal terms. He’s the priority target for Arsenal to replace Aaron Ramsdale if he leaves in the final 10 days. Espanyol is aware of Arsenal’s interest, but no official bid has been made yet; it depends on Ramsdale.”
Ramsdale signed for Arsenal in 2021 in a club-record transfer worth up to £30 million, becoming their most expensive goalkeeper. However, he was relegated to the bench following the arrival of David Raya on loan from Brentford last season, and Raya has since signed a permanent deal with the club this summer.
