Troops of the Nigerian Army have thwarted the movement of suspected terrorists in Biu Local Government Area of Borno State, forcing them to retreat following a coordinated military operation.
Security sources revealed that the operation was carried out at the weekend by troops of the 135 Special Forces Battalion after surveillance equipment detected the movement of suspected insurgents in the area.
According to the sources, the troops observed suspected fighters linked to ISWAP and Boko Haram advancing towards the Chara area. Upon confirming the movement, the military swiftly responded by launching targeted fire missions along the Dutsen Kura and Chara axis.
The operation reportedly disrupted the terrorists’ advance and compelled them to withdraw from their intended route.
A security source stated that the insurgents retreated in confusion along the Bam-Buratai–Chara–Kamuya corridor towards Mangari following the troops’ engagement.
“The insurgents were compelled to withdraw in confusion along the Bam-Buratai–Chara–Kamuya route towards Mangari following the troops’ fire mission,” the source disclosed.
The operation forms part of ongoing counter-terrorism efforts aimed at restricting the movement of insurgents and preventing attacks on communities across the North-East region.
Military authorities have continued to intensify surveillance, intelligence gathering, and offensive operations across known terrorist corridors to sustain pressure on insurgent groups operating in the region.
