The Allied Peoples Movement (APM) has intensified efforts to build a broad-based opposition coalition ahead of the 2027 general elections, saying it is engaging political parties and stakeholders across the country to rally support for its presidential candidate, Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State.
The party disclosed that discussions with opposition parties were progressing positively, expressing confidence that the ongoing consultations would culminate in a formidable alliance capable of securing victory in the next presidential election.
In a statement issued in Abuja on Monday, the National Publicity Secretary of the APM, Abubakar Yusuf, said the party remained committed to fostering unity among opposition groups as part of its strategy to present a credible alternative to Nigerians in 2027.
Yusuf welcomed the recent reaffirmation of support for the coalition by the Ekiti State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), describing the development as a significant milestone in the party’s mobilisation drive.
According to him, members of the PDP and other political stakeholders in Ekiti State gathered in Ado-Ekiti last Friday to reaffirm their backing for Governor Makinde’s presidential aspiration and their willingness to collaborate with the APM ahead of the 2027 elections.

He noted that while the PDP members pledged support for the coalition, they also resolved to retain their identity and organisational structure within the PDP, describing the arrangement as one aimed at strengthening opposition cooperation without dissolving existing party structures.

The APM spokesperson said the endorsement from the Ekiti PDP chapter would further strengthen the party’s campaign efforts and encourage similar partnerships in other states as preparations for the 2027 polls gather momentum.
He reiterated the party’s commitment to building an inclusive coalition that would unite like-minded political groups and individuals in pursuit of democratic governance and national development.
The party expressed optimism that the growing support from opposition stakeholders across the country would enhance its prospects in the 2027 presidential election and reinforce its campaign for Governor Seyi Makinde’s emergence as Nigeria’s next president.
