The Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ijumu Local Government Area of Kogi State, Oyewole Mayowa Solomon, has died after collapsing during a party reconciliation meeting in Iyara, the headquarters of the local government.
Solomon reportedly collapsed on Friday while the meeting was ongoing. He was given emergency medical attention before being rushed to a hospital in Kabba, where he was later confirmed dead.
The meeting was organised by a former Chairman of Ijumu Local Government, Funsho Olumoko, to reconcile warring factions within the party, resolve internal disagreements and strengthen unity among APC members ahead of upcoming political activities.
Reports said the first meeting ended without a resolution, prompting Solomon and other party leaders and government officials to leave the venue.
The Friday meeting was convened to bring together political leaders, local government and ward party executives, women and youth leaders, as well as government appointees from all 15 wards in Ijumu.
Senator Sunday Karimi, who represents Kogi West in the Senate, and Hon. Salman Idris, who represents Kabba-Bunu/Ijumu Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, expressed sadness over Solomon’s death.
They described him as a loyal, committed and experienced politician who played a significant role in promoting unity within the party.
Karimi described the deceased as “a unifier, peace-loving and grassroots politician,” adding that his death was a major loss to his family, Ijumu and the entire APC in Kogi State.
