Anarchy Looms If The People Cannot Trust The Judiciary – Bode George

The Chieftain of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Bode George, has expressed displeasure over the controversial judgments delivered by some judges that overturned the victories of elected public officials.

Reacting to the Appeal Court judgment in Kano and the controversy surrounding the Certified True Copy issue that followed the verdict, the Elder Statesman maintained that it was sad to witness Nigerians losing confidence in the judiciary despite it being perceived as the last hope of the common man.

Speaking to members of the press in Lagos State, Bode stated that anarchy looms when people can no longer trust the judiciary.

“Obviously, the unholy alliances between some politicians and judges are dangerous to our democracy. Millions of people will come out on the day of the election, queue, collect ballot papers, and cast their votes for their preferred candidates. Results will be announced, and everybody will jubilate, only for three, five, or seven judges to overturn the popular will of the people.

“The best the judiciary must do in political cases is to adjudicate, and where there are discrepancies, order a rerun without declaring victory for any party.” He added.

He also stressed that it was wrong for the judiciary to dictate the winners to the electorate, rather than giving the electorate the power to choose their leaders. The former Governor of Ondo State said it was dangerous to have a compromised judiciary.
