Anambra Police Arrest Landlord, Begin Accelerated Investigation into Nursing Student’s Mysterious Death

The Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, CP Ikioye Orutugu, has directed investigative officers to expedite action on the investigation into the reported suspected murder of a 23-year-old female student, whose lifeless body was discovered at her residence in Alor, Idemili South Local Government Area of Anambra State.

The CP gave the directive following the transfer of the Case from the Nnobi Divisional Police Headquarters to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Awka, for a comprehensive and discreet investigation.

The lifeless body of Miss Chiamaka Vivian Chilaka, an ND II student of the College of Nursing Sciences, Alor, was found on Sunday, within the compound where she resided as a tenant.

A statement by the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Tochukwu Ikenga revealed that police operatives who visited the scene observed a deep cut on the deceased’s thigh, other visible marks of violence on her body and blood stains around the scene, suggesting that she may have been murdered.

It further revealed that the landlord of the premises has been taken into custody and is currently undergoing interrogation as part of ongoing investigations, while the body of the deceased has been deposited in a hospital mortuary for preservation and autopsy.

“Consequently, CP Orutugu has ordered a thorough and professional investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident and charged the investigating team to leave no stone unturned in uncovering the facts and ensuring that anyone found culpable is brought to justice.

“The Commissioner of Police further reassured the public of the Command’s commitment to ensuring justice in the matter and urged anyone with useful information that could aid the investigation to come forward and assist the Police,” Ikenga said.

Meanwhile, the incident had sparked protests from students of the College, who are demanding justice for the deceased.

Residents and neighbours in the area have continued to share troubling accounts about the circumstances surrounding the death, with many describing a growing sense of unease over what may have transpired before the tragedy.

Some members of the community claimed that the young woman had repeatedly rejected alleged advances from her landlord, Mr. Ogochukwu Ugoeze.

According to these circulating accounts, tensions were said to have escalated at different points, culminating in what some residents described as a confrontation at her residence that allegedly turned into a violent struggle.

People in the neighbourhood further alleged that the landlord later reported to the police that an unknown intruder had gained access to the compound and killed the student. However, this account quickly became a subject of debate within the community after reports emerged that investigators discovered bloodstains in different parts of the compound, including areas linked to the landlord’s residence.
