Anambra Govt Declares October 3 Statewide Clean-Up Day, Orders Movement Restriction

—

The Anambra State Government has declared Saturday, October 3, 2026, as a statewide sanitation and clean-up exercise to commemorate the World and National Clean-Up Day.

The state Ministry of Environment, in a public notice signed by the Commissioner, Dr Clem Aguiyi, said the exercise is aimed at promoting a clean, healthy and sustainable environment across the state.

According to the notice, residents are expected to take responsibility for the cleanliness of their homes and surroundings, while businesses, markets, institutions, community leaders and other stakeholders are encouraged to participate actively in the exercise.

The Ministry directed business premises, markets and streets to carry out their clean-up and evacuation activities on Friday, October 2, ahead of the statewide exercise.

It also announced that movement would be restricted across the state between 6:00 a.m. and 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 3, except for persons providing essential services.

The Ministry urged market leaders and business owners to take note of the directive and ensure compliance, while residents were encouraged to properly dispose of waste and maintain clean surroundings.

It further called on members of the public to cooperate with environmental officers and community sanitation teams to ensure a successful and impactful exercise.

Dr Aguiyi urged residents and relevant stakeholders to work together towards keeping Anambra clean, healthy and environmentally friendly.
