As part of efforts to get communities in Anambra communities to be more involved in ensuring the smooth running of schools within their localities, the Anambra State Universal Basic Education Board, ASUBEB has inaugurated the Club of Patrons and Community Quality Assurance Supervisors.
The inauguration took place at the Utility hall of the ASUBEB headquarters in Awka.
Among members of the Club of patrons were Community leaders including traditional rulers, President generals as well as other stakeholders, which is in line with the directive of Mr. Governor Prof. Charles Chukwuma Soludo, CFR, to give stakeholders buy-in in the day-to-day running of the schools.
The Community Quality Assurance Supervisors will comprise woman leaders of various communities, retired teachers and headteachers and will daily monitor the conduct of teachers in the various schools.
At the event, an orientation programme was also held for Primary One, two and 3 pupils, as well as transferred pupils from other schools.
Speaking at the event, the Executive Chairman of ASUBEB, Ass. Prof. Vera Nkiru Nwadinobi said the Club of Patrons comprises prominent and independent sons and daughters of their respective communities, who reside at both home and abroad, while the Community Quality Assurance Supervisors are individuals from particular communities comprising retired civil servants, teachers and concerned enlightened members of the communities.
”Their primary role is to monitor the daily activities of the schools in their respective communities, ensure that teachers do their work well and learners learn in a conducive environment,” she said.
Nwadinobi encouraged the patrons to do their best in assisting the schools in their daily running and to ensure that they do not suffer from minor challenges that may hamper smooth academic activities.
The ASUBEB boss encouraged the new pupils to be acquainted with the workings of the various schools they are in so that they can fit into the system.
In her address, the Director, of the Department of Academic Service, Mrs Enendu Ngozi explained that the orientation programme is an annual guidance initiative designed to acquaint the members with information about the school and rules and regulations guiding behaviours.
According to her, it is expected that the pupils going forward will be good ambassadors of their respective schools and key into the academic agenda of the state through their schools.
On her part, the ASUBEB Guidance and Counselling Desk Officer Mrs Chigbo Nwakaego charged the guidance and counselling desk officers of the 21 LGAs to cascade the orientation programme at the various school level, to ensure that everyone is carried along.
In a vote of thanks on behalf of the newly inaugurated Club of Patrons, the Traditional ruler of Awkuzu, Igwe Prof. Charles Anikweze promised to be partners in progress towards the actualization of a better learning environment in the Schools of our various Communities.
Welcome song by the pupils of Udoka primary school Awka, Match past by pupils of Udeozor Mem P/s Amaenyi, Igwebueze P/s ifite, Awka, Udodimma P/s Okpuno and Udoka p/s Awka as well as Cultural dance by the pupils of Central School, Awka formed the highlights of the inauguration ceremony.
