Anambra First Lady Orders Special Medical Attention for Brutally-abused Boy, Vows to Pursue Justice

—

The wife of Anambra State Governor, Dr. Nonye Soludo, has directed that the 10-year-old boy, who was allegedly subjected to severe abuse by his guardian, be transferred to a better medical facility for comprehensive treatment and care.

The directive follows widespread public outrage over the disturbing and horrific abuse allegedly suffered by the 10-year-old boy at the hands of his guardians in Awada, Obosi, in Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State.

Viral videos that trended earlier this week showed the child with severe burns, scalded skin, and multiple injuries reportedly inflicted by his caregivers.

It was gathered that the child and her guardians were natives of Igboetiti in Enugu State.

Dr. Soludo, founder of the Healthy Living with Nonye Soludo Initiative, in a statement on Monday, expressed deep pain and sadness over the cruel treatment meted out to the minor.

According to her, “No child, regardless of his or her offence, deserves to endure such cruelty. As a mother, I find the images and reports emerging from this incident deeply disturbing and heartbreaking.

“Following this development, I have spoken with the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Afam Obidike, and appealed for the child to be moved from his current hospital to a more suitable medical facility where he can receive optimum treatment, specialised medical attention, and every support necessary for his recovery.

“I have also pledged to take full responsibility for his rehabilitation and to ensure that he is given every opportunity to heal physically, emotionally, and psychologically,” she said.

The First Lady further stated that she had requested that all those connected to the heinous act be brought to justice.

“Furthermore, I have requested that everyone connected to this heinous act be brought to justice, including the arrest of the suspect’s husband to answer for a crime that allegedly occurred under his roof. Those responsible must face the full weight of the law.

“Anambra State, under this administration, maintains zero tolerance for all forms of abuse against children and women, and I will personally follow up on this case to ensure that justice is duly served.”

She also called on members of the public to remain vigilant and report cases of abuse whenever they occur.

“We must all remain vigilant and speak up whenever we witness abuse because every child deserves protection, dignity, care, and love.

“I sincerely appreciate everyone who spoke up and helped bring this heinous act to light. God bless you all,” she added.
