Ogun Police Arrest Two Suspected Carjackers, Recover Pistols, 18 Cartridges

The Ogun State Police Command has arrested two suspected armed robbers over alleged carjacking and unlawful possession of firearms.

The suspects, Adeyinka Onakomaya, 46, and Olayiwola Kehinde, 48, were arrested following sustained investigations into a carjacking incident in the state.

The command’s spokesperson, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, disclosed this in a statement issued on Wednesday in Abeokuta.

Babaseyi said operatives of the command’s Anti-Robbery Team began tracking the suspects after recovering a stolen red Toyota Matrix in April.

He said the investigation also led to the recovery of three locally made pistols and 18 live cartridges, disrupting the activities of a suspected robbery syndicate operating across Ogun.

According to him, detectives followed intelligence gathered from the initial investigation and traced the suspects to their hideouts in Babaode, along the Idiroko Road in Ogun State, and the Command area of Lagos State.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the two arrested suspects, alongside other members of their gang, masterminded the April robbery incident and participated in a series of armed robbery operations and violent vehicle snatchings across Ota, Iju, Babaode and Atan areas of Ogun State,” he said.

Babaseyi added that police recovered the firearms and ammunition after conducting a search at the suspects’ locations.

He said both suspects allegedly confessed during interrogation to participating in several armed robbery operations in the region and were cooperating with detectives in the ongoing investigation.

The spokesperson said the command had intensified efforts to identify and arrest other fleeing members of the suspected syndicate for possible prosecution.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Bode Ojajuni, commended the Anti-Robbery Team for its persistence, operational efficiency and commitment to following investigations through to their conclusion.

Ojajuni said the recovery of the firearms and arrest of suspected members of the syndicate demonstrated the command’s determination to dismantle armed robbery networks across the state.

He assured residents that the command would continue to pursue criminal elements and strengthen efforts to make Ogun hostile to criminal activities.

The police commissioner urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious persons, movements, or activities in their communities through Gateway Shield (toll-free) 0800 000 9111, or 09164859299 and 09154293464.
