Telecommunications giant, Airtel Africa, is gearing up to establish its first 34 Megawatts NXtra Data Center in Lagos, Nigeria.

The groundbreaking ceremony, scheduled for later this month, will be officiated by notable dignitaries including the Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, and the Minister of Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economy, Dr Bosun Tijani.

The NXtra Data Center, a crucial infrastructure investment for Airtel Africa, aims to bolster data sovereignty, security, and preservation within the continent.

Expected to operate with an impressive Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE) score of 1.3 and accommodate high-density racks, the facility is positioned to meet the escalating demands of businesses, governments, and large corporations for reliable data capacity and connectivity.

Airtel Africa’s CEO, Segun Ogunsanya, expressed optimism about the project, stating, “NXtra is a critical next step towards unlocking greater opportunities for businesses to grow and help drive prosperity across Africa.”

Carl Cruz, CEO of Airtel Nigeria, highlighted the benefits the data center will bring to Lagos and Nigeria, ushering them into a sustainable and inclusive digital age.

The move aligns with a growing trend in Nigeria, with an increasing number of data centers being established, leading to job creation and positioning the country as an attractive destination for investment in data center services and operations.

The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has emphasized the economic gains associated with fostering a reliable and secure environment for such services within a well-regulated framework, paving the way for further growth and development in the sector.
