African Mining Ministers Applaud Dr. Alake’s Leadership, Adopt New Continental Reporting Code

In a landmark development for the continent’s mining sector, African mining ministers have commended Nigeria’s Minister of Solid Minerals Development, Dr. Dele Alake, for his visionary leadership during the African Minerals Strategy Group (AMSG) meeting. The ministers unanimously adopted the African Mineral Resources Classification and Management System–Pan-African Resource Code (AMREC–PARC) to enhance investor confidence and harmonize Africa’s mining standards with global best practices.

The adoption of AMREC–PARC marks a significant shift toward transparency, accountability, and competitiveness across African mining jurisdictions. The system is designed to serve as a unified framework for the classification and reporting of mineral resources and reserves, ensuring credibility and consistency in how African countries present data to potential investors and international institutions.

During the meeting, Nigeria was recognized for completing its national charter ratification process, positioning the country as one of the frontrunners in aligning with the new continental code. The final endorsement of the AMREC–PARC framework in Nigeria is expected to be granted by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, reinforcing the administration’s commitment to institutional reforms and the sustainable development of the solid minerals sector.

Dr. Alake, who chaired high-level sessions at the AMSG gathering, emphasized that the adoption of a continental code is long overdue. “We cannot build a strong and competitive mining industry in Africa without data integrity and a shared standard. AMREC–PARC brings us closer to a future where African resources are mapped, reported, and monetized with credibility,” he stated.

The ministers also resolved to fast-track domestic implementation of the AMREC–PARC system and pledged technical cooperation among member states to ensure smooth adaptation. Stakeholders noted that the code will help eliminate investor skepticism and position Africa as a reliable destination for responsible mineral investment.

The African Minerals Strategy Group continues to serve as a vital platform for policy coordination, investment promotion, and strategic alignment among African countries in the mining sector. With this latest decision, the continent has taken a major step forward in modernizing its extractive industries and improving governance structures.
