The Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps, NSCDC in Anambra State on Thursday, warned members of the Association of Licensed Private Security Practitioners of Nigeria (ALPSPN) in the state, to shun operating outside the ambits of the regulatory guidelines governing their operations.
The Anambra NSCDC Commandant, Maku Olatunde gave the warning on Thursday, in Awka, at a one-day workshop and last quarter of the year summit organized by the State NSCDC Command’s Private Guard Company (PGC) Department.
The workshop brought together, private security outfits operating in Anambra State.
Maku, who told the Private Security Companies to comply with the regulatory guidelines governing their operations, emphasized the need for private security outfits to demonstrate expertise, hard work, ethical standards, and adaptability, given their pivotal role in ensuring the security and safety of their clients and the nation.
He called on them to share valuable intelligence that would enable the Corps to excel in its primary responsibility of safeguarding lives, critical national assets, and infrastructure, thereby bolstering national security.
“As partners with the conventional security outfits in matters of security, it is important that you operate in line with the regulations controlling your practice.
“You must know that any sabotage by your men will comprise the security system, and as such, endeavour to create a system of internal surveillance and monitoring to rein them in,” Maku advised.
Earlier, Deputy Commandant Francis Nnadi, Head of the Private Guard Company (PGC) Department, stated that the primary objective of the summit was to evaluate the performance of private security outfits, update their knowledge and expertise, and equip them with essential skills to enhance their overall performance and effectiveness.
He expressed his appreciation for the private security guards’ commitment to their work and encouraged them to take a forward-thinking approach to license renewal, recommending that they begin the process at least three months before their current licenses expire.
Dr. Okon Antai, Chairman of the Association of Licensed Private Security Practitioners of Nigeria (ALPSPN), Anambra State Chapter, commended the NSCDC for its collaborative efforts in maintaining the highest standards of professionalism and effectiveness in the private security sector.
He praised the Corps’ diligent oversight and guidance, which has greatly contributed to the growth and development of private security practitioners in the state.
