The Adamawa State Government has approved contracts and procurements worth about N5 billion for development projects across the state.
The Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr Leader Leneke, disclosed this on Wednesday while briefing journalists on the outcome of the 13th State Executive Council meeting in Yola.
The council, chaired by Governor Ahmadu Fintiri, approved N1.752 billion for the construction of office blocks for the Adamawa State Post-Primary Schools Management Board (PPSMB) in Yola.
It also approved N627.696 million for the construction of internal road networks, drainage systems, culverts and other infrastructure at the Mega Science and Technical Secondary School in Hong Local Government Area.
Leneke said the project formed part of the government’s plan to establish Mega Science and Technical Secondary Schools across the state’s three senatorial districts.
Adamawa Approves N2.2bn for Fertilizers
The commissioner said the council approved N2.198 billion for the procurement of 46,300 bags of assorted fertilizers for dry-season farming.
He said the procurement would support farmers, boost agricultural production and enable them to maximize both rainy and dry seasons.
The council also approved N78.952 million for the purchase of herbicides and pesticides to support farming activities across the state.
Govt Plans Counter-Terrorism Base
Leneke disclosed that the council approved N381.656 million to engage a consulting firm for pre- and post-construction services for a counter-terrorism base in Madagali.
He said the project would strengthen security and prevent a resurgence of terrorist activities, particularly in areas that had previously suffered security challenges.
In the mining sector, the council approved a proposal from the Ministry of Mineral Resources for the renewal of the state’s mining license.
Adamawa Warns Residents Against Flooding
The commissioner said the council also directed relevant authorities to intensify public sensitization following flood warnings from the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) and the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA).
He said Adamawa remained among the states at risk of flooding, particularly communities along the River Benue and River Gongola.
Leneke urged residents in riverine areas to remain alert and comply with government directives to relocate to safer locations when necessary.
He also called on the media to intensify public enlightenment campaigns to ensure that residents in flood-prone communities understand the risks and prepare adequately.
Govt Raises Alarm Over Security
On security, Leneke said the council expressed concern over recent developments in parts of the state, including reports of killings and other suspected security breaches.
He said restoring peace and security remained one of the major achievements of the Fintiri administration, noting that the relative calm had allowed residents to conduct their businesses and go about their daily activities without fear.
The commissioner urged residents to report unfamiliar individuals and suspected criminals to security agencies.
He stressed that residents had an important role to play in helping security agencies prevent crime and maintain peace.
Leneke said the council’s decisions reflected the administration’s continued focus on improving education, agriculture, infrastructure and security across Adamawa.
