The Adamawa State Executive Council has approved the construction of a state-of-the-art Mother and Child Specialist Hospital in Yola at a cost of N19.6 billion.
The approval was granted at the council’s first meeting of 2026, presided over by Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri.
Briefing journalists after the meeting, the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr James Iliya, said the project would be executed by Lubell Nigeria Limited and is expected to be completed within 52 weeks.
Iliya also disclosed that the council approved the procurement of laboratory equipment for the Modibbo Adama University Teaching Hospital (MAUTH), Yola, at a cost of N304 million. The contract was awarded to Royal Meditech Equipment and is expected to be completed within six weeks.
According to him, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is scheduled to visit Yola on February 16, 2026, to inaugurate several projects executed by the Fintiri-led administration.
Speaking on the health benefits of the projects, the Commissioner for Health, Chief Felix Tangwami, said the Mother and Child Specialist Hospital would significantly improve maternal and child healthcare services in the state.
He explained that the hospital would introduce modern medical technology and provide specialised healthcare for women and children, with the aim of reducing infant and maternal mortality rates.
Tangwami added that the procurement of laboratory equipment for MAUTH would strengthen laboratory training and enhance service delivery at the teaching hospital.
