Gunmen kidnapped 23 people in Dei Dei town, Bwari Area of the Federal Capital Territory. The incident occurred on Saturday night, December 9, 2023, when the victims were taken from their apartments in a single compound. Among the abducted individuals is Ibrahim Oricha.
The kidnappers have reached out to Ibrahim’s family, demanding a ransom of N5 million for his release. Disturbingly, they have threatened to harm him if the payment is not made.
It’s worth noting that the kidnappers have also contacted other victims’ families, although specific details remain unclear.
Rashidat Oricha, identified as Ibrahim’s sister, revealed that the initial ransom demand was N40 million.
However, after explaining their dire situation as orphans with no support system and limited resources, the kidnappers reduced the amount to N5 million.
She expressed the family’s distress, highlighting that Ibrahim, who recently completed his National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) program, is currently unemployed.
Rashidat shared the challenges they face, stating, “I am stressed and tired. I do not know what to do. We are still soliciting funds, and I have not got much, even though people have promised; we have not seen anything.”
The FCT Police spokesperson, Josephine Adeh, confirmed the abduction but avoided providing details on the progress of the police investigation.
In response to the rising concerns about kidnapping incidents in the Federal Capital Territory, Adeh assured the public of the police command’s unwavering commitment to strengthening security measures.
She mentioned the deployment of rigorous strategies to prevent kidnapping attempts, especially during the Yuletide season.
