BREAKING: Abuja Boils as Youths Occupy National Assembly Over E-Transmission Rejection

Nigerian youths have taken to the streets of Abuja in a coordinated “Occupy National Assembly” protest, condemning the Senate’s rejection of electronic transmission of election results.

The protest is being closely monitored by a heavy security deployment comprising personnel of the Nigeria Police Force, the Nigerian Army, and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps.

The demonstrators are expressing outrage over the Senate’s stance on e-transmission, a move critics say undermines transparency and public trust in the electoral process.

The News Chronicle recalls that the Senate on Wednesday voted down a proposed amendment to Clause 60, sub-section 3 of the Electoral Amendment Bill, which sought to make the electronic transmission of election results mandatory.

As of the time of filing this report, protesters had commenced a march from the Federal Secretariat, advancing towards the gates of the National Assembly amid heightened security
