Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has formally forwarded the nomination of Murtala Sule Garo to the State House of Assembly for screening and confirmation as the new Deputy Governor of the state.
The development was disclosed in a statement issued late Tuesday night by the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Mustapha Muhammad. According to the statement, the nomination is in accordance with Section 191(3) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended), which empowers a governor to appoint a deputy governor in the event of a vacancy.
The deputy governorship position became vacant following the resignation of Abdussalam Gwarzo on March 27, 2026.
The statement noted that the governor’s decision followed extensive consultations with key political stakeholders across the state, urging the Assembly to grant swift approval for the nomination.
Garo, 48, is an experienced political administrator with over 20 years in public service. He has held several strategic positions, including State Organising Secretary of his party, Special Adviser to the Governor, and Chairman of Kabo Local Government Area.
He also served as Chairman of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON) in Kano State and later as Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs.
