Yaya Toure Announces His Retirement From Football

—

Former Ivorian Captain who was also a key Barcelona and Manchester City midfielder, Yaya Toure has retired from football.

The player’s controversial agent Dimitri Seluk announced the news on Friday through his twitter handle, revealing that the Ivorian powerhouse will now concentrate on a career as a coach.

After leaving Manchester City following eight-trophy laden seasons, Toure returned to former club Olympiakos in September but his contract was terminated after just three months in his second spell with the Greek outfit.

The former Monaco man collected multiple titles across his club career, including the Champions League and three Premier League titles.

Toure also won the Africa Cup of Nations with the Elephant of Cote d’Ivoire , as well as being named the African Footballer of the year in 2011, 2012, 2013 and 2014.

The 35-year old joined Olympiakos from Metalurh Donetsk and made 26 appearances for them in his first stint, winning the league title and Greek Cup in his only season for the club.

He later moved to Monaco and then won a slew of trophies with Barcelona during his three years there.

But there is no doubt his best form came in the sky blue shirt of Manchester City, where he won three Premier League trophies, two League Cups and one FA Cup; almost single-handedly ending City’s 35-year wait for silverware with winners against Manchester United and Stoke City.

Farewell to one of the most gifted midfielders of our time and the definition of a ‘big-game player.’
