—

President Muhammadu Buhari on Thursday signed the Minimum Wage Repeal and Re-enactment Bill 2019 into law which would take effect from April 18.

This decision has however brought about different reactions from individuals as well as organisations.

In an interview with News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the president of Women Arise for Change Initiative, Dr. Joe Okei- Odumakin commended the president for signing into law the National Minimum Wage bill approving N30,000 for the least paid worker in the country.

She added that, It is a welcome development though it is  coming at a time when several states in the country have battled over the last couple of years to pay the previous N18,000 minimum wage.

Also in an interview with newsmen, the president of the Progressive Students Movement (PMS), Mr Bestman Okereafor mentioned that the signing of the bill was a progressive minded decision.

Okereafor appealed to governors to strictly adhere with the new monthly minimum wage by paying their workers’ salaries on time.
