PDP Denies Responsibility for Hunger, Urges APC to Stop Blame Game

—

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has rejected claims that it is responsible for the hunger and economic hardship facing Nigerians, urging the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to take responsibility for the country’s current challenges.

The PDP National Publicity Secretary, Jungudo Mohammed, stated this in a statement issued in Abuja on Monday.

Mohammed said the party’s attention had been drawn to comments by the APC National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, during an appearance on News Central’s breakfast program on Monday, in which he reportedly blamed the PDP for the country’s economic difficulties.

He also cited similar remarks reportedly made by President Bola Tinubu in Kaduna during the flag-off of his 2027 re-election campaign.

According to him, such statements were attempts to evade responsibility and divert public attention from the challenges confronting Nigerians under the APC-led administration.

“Our message to the APC is simple: stop the blame game and start taking responsibility. Nigerians deserve solutions, not excuses,” he said.

Mohammed maintained that the government must address the country’s challenges through concrete, measurable and sustainable policies capable of providing meaningful relief to citizens.

He added that the APC administration must account for its performance and present a credible roadmap towards economic recovery, food security and improved living standards.

The PDP spokesman challenged the ruling party to explain its plans to make food affordable, support farmers, and strengthen domestic food production.

He also urged the APC to outline practical measures to create jobs, improve security, combat corruption, expand electricity supply, reduce transportation costs, and restore the purchasing power of ordinary Nigerians.

Mohammed said that although the PDP acknowledged genuine achievements recorded by the Tinubu administration where applicable, it would not accept the use of its 16 years in government as a blanket justification for the current administration’s shortcomings.

He stressed that recognizing specific government achievements should not be interpreted as an endorsement of all its policies or an acceptance of attempts to blame previous PDP-led administrations for present economic difficulties.

“After more than 10 years of APC in office, Nigerians deserve answers, not excuses,” he said.

The PDP publicity secretary urged the ruling party to account for its achievements, explain the measures being implemented to tackle current challenges and demonstrate its commitment to improving citizens’ welfare.

He further argued that Nigeria’s economic difficulties could not be resolved by repeatedly blaming previous administrations, noting that historical circumstances might provide context but could not serve as a permanent excuse for avoiding accountability.

According to Mohammed, every administration should be assessed based on its policies, performance and, most importantly, the living conditions of the people.

He said Nigerians were demanding practical solutions to rising living costs, food insecurity, and economic instability, rather than prolonged political arguments.

Mohammed added that the PDP remained confident that Nigerians would judge political parties by their records, policies and commitment to public welfare.

He said the growing desire among Nigerians for a return to PDP leadership reflected their aspiration for better governance, improved living conditions and a more secure and prosperous country.
