Paris Saint Germain midfielder Fabian Ruiz is confident that his trophy laden season gives him every reason to dream of winning the 2026 Ballon d’Or.
The Spain international has become an unlikely contender in the race after helping PSG win Ligue 1 and the Champions League before playing a key role in Spain’s World Cup triumph. He has also added the UEFA Super Cup and FIFA Intercontinental Cup to his collection with the French champions.
Ruiz has now pointed to his impressive medal haul as part of the justification for the prestigious individual award.
“I am the player who has won the most titles,” Ruiz said before collecting seven trophies and stating that he was happy that his performances were receiving recognition.
The News Chronicle reports that the 30 year old has previously admitted that winning the Ballon d’Or would be a dream but that he would normally prefer to stay away from the spotlight.
Ruiz also believes that midfielders, defenders and goalkeepers should receive greater recognition and claims that players in these positions find naturally find it harder to match the statistics produced by forwards.
The 2026 edition of the Ballon d’Or ceremony is scheduled to take place in London on October 26 with Ruiz among the 30 nominees.
