Troops of the Nigerian Army have arrested nine suspected drug dealers in Buni Yadi, Gujba Local Government Area of Yobe State, as part of efforts to curb criminal activities and prevent illicit drugs from reaching terrorist groups.
The operation was conducted on September 19, 2026, by troops of the Garrison under the 27 Task Force Brigade during a raid in the area.
The soldiers recovered various substances suspected to be illegal drugs, including cannabis sativa, tramadol, codeine and other prohibited substances.
The suspects were later handed over to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in Yobe State on Tuesday for further investigation and possible prosecution.
Speaking during the handover, Major A. Balogun, who represented the Commander of the 27 Task Force Brigade, Brigadier General M.S. Mukhtar, said the operation was part of the Army’s efforts to strengthen security in the North-East.
He said security agencies were working to disrupt sources of support for criminal groups, including access to illicit drugs, stressing that preventing the circulation of such substances was important in tackling terrorism and other violent crimes.
The suspects were identified as Hassan Ibrahim, Ahmed Mohammed Shuwa, Adam Jibril Jakadi, Musa Aga, Mohammed Mohammed, Isa Adamu, Usman Salisu, Mohammed Abiso and Buba Kambari.
Receiving the suspects and recovered exhibits, the Deputy Commander of Operations of the NDLEA in Yobe State, Garba Yakubu, commended the cooperation between the Nigerian Army and the anti-drug agency.
The seized substances are expected to be examined by relevant authorities as investigations continue.
