The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) will hold a World Press Conference and National Stakeholders’ Meeting on October 6, 2026, in Abuja, as preparations intensify for the 2027 General Election.
According to the commission, the event will mark the 100-day milestone to the first ballot and will bring together political parties, media organisations, security agencies, civil society groups, religious leaders, development partners, members of the diplomatic community and other stakeholders.
The meeting is scheduled to take place at the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre, Abuja, from 10:00 a.m. Attendance will be strictly by invitation.
INEC Chairman, Professor Joash Ojo Amupitan, SAN, is expected to address the gathering and provide updates on the commission’s preparations for the 2027 elections.
The commission said the meeting would provide an opportunity to engage Nigerians and key stakeholders on its level of preparedness and strengthen collaboration ahead of the nationwide polls.
INEC had earlier fixed February 20, 2027, for the presidential and National Assembly elections, while the governorship and State Houses of Assembly elections are scheduled for March 6, 2027.
The commission has continued consultations with political parties, the media, security agencies and other stakeholders as part of preparations for the elections. It has also said that lessons from recent off-cycle and bye-elections would contribute to improving its operational readiness for the 2027 polls.
The October 6 meeting is therefore expected to focus on INEC’s preparations, stakeholder collaboration and other issues concerning the conduct of the 2027 General Election.
