Professor of Political Science and International Relations at Nasarawa State University, Keffi, Prof. Jideofor Adibe, has warned that it could be dangerous if President Bola Tinubu sides with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, against governors elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress.
Speaking on Channels Television’s Hard Copy, monitored by The News Chronicle, Adibe said Wike’s growing political influence had raised questions about his relationship with the President.
“Wike, with all due respect, has violated what we will call all the laws of power. For example, one of the key laws of power is that you do not compete with your master for media space,” he said.
Adibe cited Wike’s monthly media parley as an example, saying, “I don’t think any other minister or even the VP can do that and survive.”
He said Wike’s influence had extended beyond Rivers State through the opposition-backed “rainbow coalition”, with about 10 senators reportedly associated with the group.
Adibe said the development could affect APC governors’ influence and access to Tinubu.
“The governors themselves are supposed to be one of the key centres of power in terms of access to the President,” he said.
He added that the contest was ultimately about “competing for influence”, rather than the President alone.
