The Anambra State Police Command has confirmed the killing of a comedian and media personality, Isaac Nwosu, popularly known as Aiza Nwosu, and another unidentified man in separate attacks in Awka, the state capital.
The News Chronicle gathered that the two victims were shot dead at different locations by the same unidentified assailants on Sunday, August 30, 2026.
Nwosu was attacked along S.M. Okeke Street, Amaikwo, Awka, while the second victim was shot along Capital City Road, Amaenyi, Awka.
The assailants, suspected to be cultists, reportedly trailed Nwosu from his residence before double-crossing his vehicle and opening fire.
Eyewitnesses and residents who spoke to The News Chronicle suggested that the attacks might be connected to cult-related activities.
An eyewitness near the scene of Nwosu’s killing said the attackers, numbering about three and travelling in a tinted vehicle, left the comedian in a pool of blood inside his car before driving away.
The witness added that the assailants later shot another man by the roadside, dispossessed him of his belongings and fled the scene.
“The assailants fired some shots into the air before leaving the scene in a commando-like manner, thereby creating tension in the area.
“After they left, security operatives arrived at the scenes and recovered the lifeless bodies of the victims. Security was subsequently beefed up around the affected areas.”
Videos circulating online showed the lifeless bodies of the victims lying in pools of blood at the different locations as residents gathered around the scenes.
The police spokesperson, SP Ikenga Tochukwu, confirmed the incident in a statement issued on Monday, August 31, 2026, while details surrounding the motive for the killings remained unclear.
