Avoid the Three Is’ — Lagos Warns 80 Newly Inducted Teachers

The Lagos State Education District Six has inducted 80 newly recruited teachers and warned them against illegal admissions, unauthorized collection of money from students, and illicit relationships.

The district urged the teachers to uphold professionalism, discipline and integrity as they begin their careers in the public education system.

The Tutor-General/Permanent Secretary of the district, Mrs Mojisola Yusuff, gave the warning at the induction ceremony held at the district headquarters in Oshodi.

Yusuff’s remarks were contained in a statement issued by the district’s Director of Public Affairs, Mr Ogunbolarin Mobolaji, on Thursday in Lagos.

She urged the new teachers to study the public service rules and uphold accountability and professionalism in the discharge of their duties.

According to her, teachers must approach their responsibilities with dedication and commitment while serving as positive role models for their students.

Yusuff also advised the inductees to familiarise themselves with the Child Protection and Safeguarding Act and maintain healthy relationships with parents.

She further urged them to live within their means and avoid financial pressures that could compromise their professional conduct.

As teachers, you must demonstrate dedication, discipline, diligence and integrity.

Respect your students, prepare lesson notes ahead and exhibit responsible conduct in the discharge of your duties”.

Avoid the three Is: Illegal admissions, Illegal collection of money and Illicit affairs, because they undermine discipline, trust and the integrity of the education system,” she said.

Yusuff stressed that teaching went beyond classroom instruction, noting that teachers’ conduct, values and commitment would play a major role in shaping the character and future of their students.

The ceremony attracted directors from the district and other stakeholders in the education sector.
