The Kano State Fire Service has rescued a 40-year-old man, Badamasi Ibrahim, after he became trapped in an old well while attempting to save his cow in Sabon Ruwa, Makoda Local Government Area of the state.
The service’s Public Relations Officer, Saminu Abdullahi, disclosed this in a statement issued to journalists in Kano.
Abdullahi said the incident occurred on Wednesday afternoon after the fire service received an emergency call at about 3:22 p.m. from one Ibrahim Jibrin.
He said the caller reported that a man and his cow had fallen into a well.
According to him, firefighters immediately moved to the scene and began a rescue operation.
“Badamasi Ibrahim entered the well to bring out his five-year-old cow in an attempt to rescue it, but he also became trapped and could not get out,” the statement said.
Abdullahi said the firefighters successfully brought both the man and the cow out of the well alive.
He added that Ibrahim experienced difficulty breathing while trapped inside the well but survived the incident.
The fire service spokesman warned residents against entering or diving into wells during rescue attempts, stressing that such actions could expose them to serious danger.
He urged members of the public to contact the fire service or other emergency responders whenever similar incidents occur.
