The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Gombe State University Branch, has suspended its planned total, comprehensive and indefinite strike following its Congress meeting held on Friday, August 21, 2026.
The Congress deliberated extensively on issues affecting the university, particularly the implementation of the new salary structure, payment of outstanding arrears and other entitlements owed to academic staff.
After consideration of the developments, the union resolved to suspend the planned industrial action to allow the Gombe State Government and the university management more time to fulfil their commitments.
However, ASUU warned that the suspension is conditional. The union said that if the agreed commitments are not fully implemented by the end of October 2026, it will proceed with the planned industrial action.
The development means that students of Gombe State University will not face an immediate indefinite strike based on the latest ASUU resolution.
Nevertheless, the union’s October deadline places pressure on the state government and university management to implement the outstanding agreements before the expiration of the deadline.
ASUU members and students are expected to closely monitor developments over the coming weeks as discussions and implementation of the agreements continue
