Those Seeking ‘His Excellency’ Title Must Behave Excellently — Obi Speaks After Signing 2027 Peace Accord

The presidential candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the 2027 election, Peter Obi, has urged political leaders and their supporters to shun violence and inflammatory rhetoric ahead of the polls.

Obi stated this on Wednesday after joining other presidential candidates to sign the first National Peace Accord for the 2027 Presidential Election.

The former Anambra State governor said his decision to sign the accord reaffirmed his commitment to ensuring that political candidates conduct themselves in a manner befitting the offices they seek.

He said leaders must avoid violent rhetoric and ensure their supporters do not engage in actions that threaten peace before, during, and after the election.

According to Obi, the 2027 election should be centered on issues affecting Nigerians, including insecurity, poverty, the growing number of out-of-school children, national unity and the restoration of hope among citizens.

He said political supporters should also recognise the commitment made by candidates to pursue free, fair and credible elections based on issues rather than rancour.

“Those of us wishing to be addressed as ‘His Excellency’ must behave excellently, and, more importantly, the process of attaining public office must be excellent,” Obi said.

The NDC presidential candidate also expressed confidence in the commitment of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to conduct free, fair and credible elections.

He equally welcomed the pledge by law enforcement agencies to remain impartial throughout the electioneering process.

Obi called on his supporters to remain peaceful, resolute and committed to the democratic process as the country prepares for the 2027 general elections.
