Digital Encode Deploys AI Platform to Combat Rising Cybercrime

Digital Encode, a Nigerian cybersecurity company, has deployed an Artificial Intelligence (AI) platform designed to help organizations detect and address increasingly sophisticated cyber threats.

The Chief Executive Officer of Digital Encode, Prof. Adewale Obadare, disclosed this in a statement on Tuesday.

Obadare said the platform, known as Digital Encode Penetration Autonomous System (DEPAS AI), was developed to enable organizations to move from periodic manual security checks to continuous and autonomous testing of their systems and networks.

He said the platform was introduced amid the growing use of AI by cybercriminals to launch faster and more sophisticated attacks.

According to him, AI-enabled breaches now account for 25 percent of all malicious incidents, representing a 56 percent year-on-year increase.

He said the average cost of AI-enabled breaches had risen to $6.04 million, compared with the global average of $4.99 million.

Obadare said North America recorded the highest share of attack activity at 29 percent, followed by Asia Pacific with 27 percent and Europe with 25 percent.

He said the Middle East and Africa accounted for 10 percent, while Latin America accounted for 9 percent.

The CEO said the figures underscored the growing spread of AI-driven cyber threats and the need for organizations to adopt faster and more robust security measures.

He explained that DEPAS AI deployed specialized AI security agents across an organization’s attack surface simultaneously.

According to him, an AI coordinator oversees the process, monitors systems under assessment, analyses results, and deploys additional agents when deeper checks are required.

He said each vulnerability identified by the platform was independently tested by another agent to minimize false positives and ensure that reported weaknesses were genuine.

Obadare added that the platform used a “chain builder” to connect separate vulnerabilities and demonstrate how attackers could combine them to execute a successful attack.

“AI is now being weaponized by attackers to move faster than human teams can respond,” he said.

He said DEPAS AI combined Artificial Intelligence with Human Intelligence to provide organizations with the speed and scale required to defend against modern cyber threats.

Obadare said the platform could test enterprise and web applications, Application Programming Interfaces (APIs), mobile applications and backend systems.

He added that it could assess cloud environments as well as network and Internet Protocol (IP) infrastructure for potential vulnerabilities.

According to him, DEPAS AI provides round-the-clock testing across applications, cloud systems and network assets.

He said its independent verification system helped reduce unnecessary alerts, enabling security teams to concentrate on genuine vulnerabilities.

Obadare noted that the platform could also map attack chains, showing how seemingly separate weaknesses could be linked and exploited by cybercriminals.

He added that it generated executive-ready reports, remediation guidance and compliance mapping to help organizations respond to identified risks.

“With DEPAS AI, we are reimagining penetration testing for the AI era,” he said.

Obadare said Digital Encode’s goal was to equip enterprises in Nigeria and other parts of the world with tools to detect, prioritize and fix cyber risks before they were exploited.

The Digital Encode is a cybersecurity professional services company that provides cybersecurity, information technology governance, risk management, and related services.
