Competence, Not Party, Will Decide 2027 Election — APC Reps Candidate Ezekwelu

The All Progressives Congress candidate for the Idemili North and South Federal Constituency of Anambra State, Dr Kingsley Kenechukwu Stanley Ezekwelu, has said voters in the constituency are more concerned about candidates’ individual capacity and records than political party affiliation.

Ezekwelu stated this during an interview with The News Chronicle, in response to questions about the influence of political parties and the opposition ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The APC candidate said political parties were merely platforms through which individuals sought elective positions, arguing that voters ultimately assessed candidates based on their competence, contributions to society and ability to represent their interests.

“A political party is just a vehicle, a platform that carries people to their destination. The drivers of that system are the people,” Ezekwelu said.

He said his previous membership of APGA, which he stated lasted nearly two decades, gave him considerable experience in the political terrain of Idemili North and South.

“I was once a member of APGA for almost 20 years. We were the people that made it happen. My family, myself, my brothers built APGA that is making waves today,” he said.

According to him, voters in Idemili North and South, particularly in Idemili South Local Government Area, do not necessarily vote along party lines but assess individual candidates based on their competence and contributions to the community.

Ezekwelu also dismissed the suggestion that the 2027 contest would be determined solely by the strength of parties, declaring that the APC had become a dominant political force in Nigeria.

“Anybody that is talking about political party in this election is making a mistake. APC has come to stay. APC is the dominant political party in Nigeria,” he said.

He, however, maintained that his focus was not simply on the APC platform but on delivering effective representation to the people of the constituency if elected.

Ezekwelu said his objective was to use his position in the National Assembly to ensure that the concerns of his constituents were heard and addressed through legislation, oversight and advocacy.

He promised to push for federal projects and institutions in Idemili North and South, while ensuring that projects allocated to the constituency were executed according to specifications.

Ezekwelu also promised to serve as a link between the constituency and the Federal Government by communicating the needs of the people to government and bringing government programmes and projects back to the constituency.

“I am coming with every skill, determination, resolve, capacity, experience, knowledge, wisdom and God-given talent to make sure that their interest is properly represented in the National Assembly,” he said.
