A former governorship candidate in Kebbi State and supporter of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Mallam Salihu Isa Nataro, has urged Nigeria’s elite and youths to educate citizens on what he described as the achievements of President Tinubu’s administration over the past three years.
In a statement issued on Sunday obtained by The News Chronicle, Nataro claimed that the Tinubu administration had accomplished more than the combined governments of former Presidents Goodluck Jonathan and Muhammadu Buhari.
He praised the administration’s tax reforms, saying they had improved the business environment for both local and international investors, while customs reforms were beginning to ease poverty and hunger across the country.
Nataro blamed the food crisis on the previous administration’s border closure policy, arguing that local farmers were not adequately prepared to meet the country’s food demands when the policy was implemented.
He also highlighted the government’s efforts in agriculture, vocational training, student loans, and infrastructure development, including the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway and the Sokoto-Badagry Super Highway, describing them as projects that would enhance transportation and boost economic activities.
According to him, President Tinubu had also increased financial allocations to state governments to improve development and reduce dependence on the Federal Government. However, he expressed concern that many governors had failed to utilise the funds effectively, accusing the opposition of focusing criticism on the President instead of holding governors accountable.
Despite his support for the administration, Nataro criticised the Federal Government’s continued reliance on foreign loans and faulted its failure to review pension eligibility from 15 to 20 years.
He called on President Tinubu to use the remainder of his tenure to accelerate Nigeria’s industrialisation by attracting more foreign investors and encouraging local billionaires to invest through tax incentives aimed at reducing economic hardship.
