The Osun State Government has called on employers of National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members to provide safer, more supportive and rewarding workplaces, describing them as critical partners in the successful implementation of the scheme.
The Commissioner for Youths and Sports, Mr Moshood Olagunju, made the call on Tuesday while declaring open the 2026 NYSC Corps Employers’ Workshop, held simultaneously across the four NYSC zones in the state.
The workshop, themed “Fine-tuning Stakeholders’ Collaboration for Enhanced Corps Members’ Welfare and Workplace Experience,” focused on strengthening cooperation among stakeholders to improve the welfare and service experience of corps members.
Olagunju said the theme underscored the importance of stronger collaboration to ensure corps members are properly mentored, protected and provided with a conducive environment for both personal and professional development.
Describing corps employers as indispensable partners in the success of the NYSC scheme, he urged them to continue creating workplaces where corps members could maximise their potential while gaining valuable professional experience.
“I therefore urge all employers to continue to provide a safe, conducive and rewarding work environment where corps members can maximise their potential while acquiring valuable professional experience.
“We reaffirm the Osun State Government’s commitment to supporting programmes that promote youth development, national integration and human capital development,” he said.
The commissioner added that the state government would continue collaborating with the NYSC to create opportunities for corps members to contribute meaningfully to the socio-economic development of Osun.
He commended the Director-General of the NYSC for sustaining regular engagement with corps employers across the country and praised the Osun State Coordinator of the scheme, Mr Ekeng Kubiangha, for strengthening relationships with key stakeholders.
Olagunju expressed confidence that the workshop would produce practical recommendations to improve corps members’ welfare, enhance their workplace experience and deepen collaboration among stakeholders.
Earlier, the NYSC State Coordinator, Mr Ekeng Kubiangha, said the workshop remained one of the scheme’s most important stakeholder engagement platforms, offering participants the opportunity to review existing partnerships, share experiences, identify challenges and develop practical solutions.
He noted that the theme reflected the collective commitment of stakeholders to ensuring that every corps member posted to Osun serves in a safe, productive and conducive environment.
According to Kubiangha, the success of the NYSC scheme depends largely on the commitment of employers beyond simply providing places of primary assignment.
“Beyond providing places of primary assignment, employers serve as mentors, supervisors and partners in shaping the future of our young graduates.
“We therefore solicit your continued cooperation in ensuring adequate supervision, prompt evaluation, proper welfare, security and meaningful engagement of corps members throughout their service year,” he said.
Kubiangha commended the Osun State Government for its sustained support for the scheme, noting that the commitment of Governor Ademola Adeleke’s administration had contributed significantly to the successful implementation of the NYSC programme in the state.
He also appreciated the Commissioner for Youths and Sports, who doubles as Chairman of the NYSC State Governing Board, for his continued support for youth development and national service initiatives.
The coordinator urged participants to actively contribute to discussions, expressing optimism that the workshop’s resolutions would further strengthen collaboration between the NYSC and corps employers while improving the welfare and workplace experience of corps members.
