Lagos Demolishes Illegal Structures in Iju-Ishaga to Enforce Environmental Laws

—

The Lagos State Government has demolished illegal structures along Makanjuola Street in Iju-Ishaga as part of its ongoing environmental enforcement campaign to restore order and protect public infrastructure.

The exercise was disclosed in a statement posted on Thursday via the official X handle of the Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Mr. Tokunbo Wahab.

According to the statement, the operation was carried out to enforce environmental regulations, safeguard public infrastructure, and promote a cleaner, safer, and more orderly environment.

The government said the demolished structures were illegally erected on public spaces, obstructing access, worsening environmental degradation, and hampering effective sanitation and drainage management.

It added that the exercise aligns with the state government’s commitment to preserving public infrastructure, improving environmental sanitation, and maintaining order across communities.

Residents and property owners were urged to comply with environmental laws and desist from encroaching on public spaces, with the government warning that similar enforcement operations would continue across the state.
