Operatives of the Civil Defence Mining Marshals have arrested a senior police officer for allegedly aiding illegal Chinese mining defendants to escape.
In a video released by Sahara TV, security operatives were seen recovering police uniforms, live ammunition, and some mined minerals from the location where the Chinese nationals were occupying.
Authorities say the recovered items are being examined as part of investigations into the scope of illegal mining operations and alleged collusion with security personnel.
The Civil Defence Mining Marshals, a special unit tasked with clamping down on illegal mining nationwide, said the arrest sends a strong warning to anyone, including security officers, found to be aiding or protecting illegal operators.
