Major League Soccer side Chicago Fire have officially completed the signing of Polish striker Robert Lewandowski after pursuing the former Barcelona star for more than a year.
The News Chronicle reports that Head coach Gregg Berhalter said that negotiations on the transfer started in January 2025 and that the club kept in touch with the player’s representatives often before finally striking a deal.
To start a fresh chapter in the United States, Lewandowski rejected offers from teams in Europe and Saudi Arabia. Having scored 120 goals in 193 games for Barcelona, the prolific forward will help Chicago Fire’s championship quest.

Berhalter said the 37-year-old was one of the best contemporary strikers and complimented his amazing goal-scoring record and winning attitude. The club intends to closely monitor his fitness before releasing him on July 16 for his MLS debut against Vancouver Whitecaps and ex-Bayern Munich teammate Thomas Muller.
Lewandowski’s arrival also sets up the possibility of renewing his famous rivalry with Lionel Messi, whose Inter Miami side could face Chicago later this month if both stars are available.
