FG Bans Commercial Motorcycles, Tricycles on Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway

—

The Federal Ministry of Works has banned commercial motorcycles and tricycles from operating on the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway.

The restriction, which takes effect this week, was announced in a statement on Sunday by the Federal Controller of Works in Lagos State, Mr Olufemi Dare.

Dare said the measure was introduced to protect the newly constructed superhighway from misuse and deterioration and to ensure its long-term sustainability.

He also announced a ban on the indiscriminate parking of trucks and other articulated vehicles along the coastal highway and on bridges across Lagos State.

According to him, the ministry has also prohibited the indiscriminate disposal of refuse along highway corridors, describing the practice as unacceptable.

Dare warned that violators would face strict enforcement measures, adding that traffic signs indicating the restrictions had already been installed along the highway.

He said task force officials would be deployed to strategic locations to ensure compliance.

Describing the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway as a “world-class infrastructure,” Dare urged all road users to obey the directives in the interest of public safety.

He added that protecting the facility would enhance its lifespan and preserve its value for Nigerians.
