Kano Court Adjourns Ganduje’s Alleged Naira Billions Fraud Trial to October 2026

A Kano State High Court has adjourned the alleged misappropriation trial of former Kano State Governor, Abdullahi Ganduje, and seven other defendants until October 14, 2026.

The case was postponed on Wednesday by Justice Amina Adamu-Aliyu to allow the court hear a preliminary objection filed by the sixth defendant in the matter.

Ganduje is being prosecuted alongside his wife, Hafsat Umar, and his son, Abdullahi Umar, over an 11-count charge bordering on alleged bribery, conspiracy, and diversion of public funds running into billions of naira.

Other defendants named in the suit include Abubakar Bawuro, Jibrilla Muhammad, Lamash Properties Ltd, Safari Textiles Ltd, and Lasage General Enterprises Ltd.

During the court session, the prosecution counsel, Victor Oni, informed the court that the state was ready to proceed with the trial. He requested permission to withdraw an earlier motion dated March 31, 2026, and replace it with a fresh application dated May 15, 2026, accompanied by a counter affidavit and written address.

Counsel representing Ganduje, his wife, and son, Lydia Oluwakemi-Oyewo, told the court that the defense had no objection to the prosecution’s request and was prepared to continue with the proceedings.

Meanwhile, counsel to the sixth defendant, Abubakar Ahmad, notified the court that a preliminary objection had been filed and sought a date for its hearing.

Justice Amina Adamu-Aliyu subsequently struck out the prosecution’s earlier motion dated March 31, 2026, before adjourning the matter to October 14, 2026, for hearing of the preliminary objection.
