Presidential aspirant of the National Democratic Congress, NDC, Peter Obi has lamented the continued captivity of kidnapped Nigerian children, describing the situation as a national disgrace despite the country marking Children’s Day celebrations.
In a statement on Tuesday, Obi said his heart remained heavy and troubled as many Nigerian children have continued to languish in kidnappers’ dens for years while the nation moves on.
The former Anambra State governor said it was heartbreaking that the images of some abducted children were still circulating on social media long after their disappearance, with little progress made toward securing their freedom.
“A nation that cannot protect its children from criminals has little but shame to present to the global community,” Obi said.
He added that no parent should endure the pain and shame of being unable to protect their children, stressing that Nigeria must not normalise the prolonged suffering of innocent children held in captivity.
