President Bola Tinubu has condemned the reported killing of one of the teachers abducted during last Friday’s attack on Esiele community in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State, as security forces continue rescue operations.
In a statement issued Sunday by Special Adviser on Information and Strategy Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu described the killing as “baric.”
“I am saddened by the reported killing of one of the teachers kidnapped by the gunmen who invaded the community,” the president said. He extended sympathies to Governor Seyi Makinde, the Oyo State government, and the families of the victims.
Tinubu said the federal government is working with the Oyo State government to rescue all those abducted.
He commended the Inspector-General of Police and the commissioners of police in Oyo and Kwara States for deploying tactical and Intelligence Response Team units.
The president also renewed his call for the creation of state police, arguing that repeated kidnapping incidents make it imperative to secure underserved areas.
He urged the National Assembly to accelerate the passage of legislation establishing state police.
Security operatives are said to be working “around the clock” to rescue the victims and apprehend the attackers and their collaborators.
