EFCC Tells Nigerians to Petition Over Senator Kaka Lawan’s N135.6m APC Sallah Donation

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has urged Nigerians demanding an investigation into the N135.6 million cash donation made by Senator Kaka Lawan to All Progressives Congress (APC) officials in Borno Central to submit a formal petition to the agency.
The anti graft commission said it would only act on verified facts and official complaints rather than social media outrage or speculation.
Reacting to public criticism surrounding the senator’s cash distribution ahead of the Eid-el-Kabir celebration, EFCC spokesperson, Dele Oyewale, said any citizen or group who suspects wrongdoing should officially report the matter to the commission for investigation.
“Anybody who feels that he has contravened the law or is suspected to have contravened the law should write a petition to the EFCC and the commission will look into it,” Oyewale said.
He stressed that public commentary online was not sufficient to trigger an investigation, noting that the commission operates based on evidence and formal complaints.
“The EFCC works with facts and not speculations. If anyone feels he has broken any law, they can write a petition to us and we will look at it diligently,” he added.
The controversy erupted after Senator Lawan’s aide, Usman Alkali, disclosed in a Facebook post that the senator distributed N135,650,000 to APC executives across Borno Central as Sallah packages.
According to Alkali, the funds were shared on Thursday to support party officials in preparation for the Eid-el-Kabir festivities, adding that it was the third time the senator had made such a donation since joining the National Assembly.
The disclosure sparked widespread reactions online, with many Nigerians calling on the EFCC to probe the lawmaker over alleged money laundering concerns.
